How to use?
An ICS file (also known as an iCalendar file) is a universal calendar format used to store and share event data. It allows you to import events into calendar applications like Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, Outlook, and more.
How to Use an ICS File in Your Calendar
1. Importing an ICS File into Google Calendar
- Open Google Calendar on your browser.
- Click on the gear icon (⚙️ Settings) in the top right and select Settings.
- In the left-hand menu, scroll down and select Import & Export.
- Under the Import section, click Select file from your computer and choose the ICS file.
- Choose the calendar where you want to add the events.
- Click Import to add the events to your calendar.
2. Importing an ICS File into Apple Calendar (Mac)
- Open the Calendar app on your Mac.
- Click File > Import.
- Select the ICS file from your computer.
- Choose which calendar to import the events into.
- Click OK, and the events will be added.
3. Importing an ICS File into Outlook
On Windows:
- Open Microsoft Outlook.
- Click File > Open & Export > Import/Export.
- Select Import an iCalendar (.ics) or vCalendar file and click Next.
- Locate and select the ICS file.
- Click Open as New (to create a new calendar) or Import (to merge with an existing calendar).
On Outlook Web (Outlook.com):
- Go to Outlook.com.
- Click Add calendar > Upload from file.
- Select the ICS file and choose the calendar to import into.
- Click Import.
4. Adding an ICS Subscription (for Automatic Updates)
Instead of importing a static ICS file, you can subscribe to an ICS URL to keep your calendar automatically updated.
- In Google Calendar, go to Settings > Add Calendar > From URL, then paste the ICS link.
- In Apple Calendar, go to File > New Calendar Subscription, paste the URL, and click Subscribe.
- In Outlook, go to Add Calendar > Subscribe from Web, enter the ICS URL, and save.
This method is useful for syncing holidays, team schedules, or events that may change over time.
