Tips for going to Mardi Gras parades in the rain

January 19 2018

It might just rain on your Mardi Gras parade so come prepared...

1 – Wear rain boots. Guys, if you don’t have rain boots, then wear some water resistance boots or tennis shoes. We see a lot of shrimp boots around here, which are perfect for walking through the muddy neutral ground. Basically, just know that the ground is going to be messy, so don’t wear any shoes that are going to be uncomfortable or that you care about getting dirty.

2 – Bring a raincoat.  Or a trash bag. Or a cheap poncho you can purchase from any convenience store like CVS or Walgreens. Umbrellas are okay, but you want to be careful not to obstruct other people’s view at the parade.  If you do bring an umbrella, keep that in mind and be courteous to other parade watchers.

3 – Make sure your costume and bags are all-weather friendly.  If you’re dressing up and what you’re wearing would get ruined by rain, then you may want to re-think your wardrobe tonight.  If you’re bringing a backpack or bag to carry all of your throws in, make sure they are not made out of fabric that will get heavy and hard to carry when wet.

4 – Know you’re going to get wet, and be okay with it.  A little rain never hurt anyone, and you’re still going to have a lot of fun. In fact, if it’s anything like last year’s muddy Jazz Fest, it will all just become part of the experience. Go out, catch some beads, grab a drink, and enjoy.
