Mardi Gras Parades Super Bowl Weekend (February 1-2)

 

Because of the Super Bowl festivities the New Orleans Mardi Gras krewes are taking the weekend off.  However, that doesn’t mean that there’s parades this weekend.

If you’re in town for the Super Bowl and want to see what the parades are all about or are a local fiending for more Carnival celebration, there’s a number of parades that are just a short drive from New Orleans.

For the out of towners, these will give you an idea what all of the excitement is about. At these parades, the whole family will get to see the floats, check out the costumes and try your luck at catching some beads.

Friday, February 1

Friday night the parades roll in the near suburb of Metairie. It’s just ten to fifteen minute drive away (However, make sure you leave plenty of time to find parking!) to the parades there.)

At 7pm, the Krewe Of Excalibur roll down Veteran’s Boulevard with its 250 plus members.  They have a medieval theme and start things off with a procession of fully-suited knights.

Don’t leave after Excalibur. The Krewe of Atlas will be following the same parade route shortly afterwards.

Saturday, February 2

Saturday there’s four options for parades to check out.

At noon, the Krewe of Alla march on the West Bank. This Krewe has been parading 75 years, so you know that they know to put on an experience that you won’t ever forget.

In Chalmette, the Knights of Nemesis parade at 1:00 pm. The Knights are a newer parade, but this is another parade that may want to put them on their todo list.

Back in Metairie, the Krewe of Caesar have an evening parade at 6:00 pm. Caesar is the largest krewe in Jefferson Parish with 800 plus male and female members. This group is known for their spectacular costumes and  fiber-optics and neon on their floats.

Last but not least, in Slidell the Krewe of Titans march at 6:30 pm. The titans are a group of 125 men that are known for their parade throws like their cups, medallion beads, footballs and t-shirts.
