It was a Memorial Day Mardi Gras on May 30th in Harahan, Louisiana, just outside New Orleans. The crowd, estimated to be 40,000, was anxious to catch a little normalcy. The weather cooperated and a good time was had by all.
"It was great, just to be out here with family, catching beads and having fun again," one parade-goer said. "I think Mardi Gras 2022 is going to be amazing. There's so much pent-up joy, just ready to be released!"
The parade featured 18 floats and around 200 riders, all wearing masks and gloves. It was the first parade to roll since the Covid-19 pandemic began. Mel Grodsky was king and Sarah Miller was queen. The parade had a Memorial Day theme and paid tribute to fallen soldiers.
